Teammate Tuesday: Jack Brown Personal Lines Advisor
I’m Jack Brown, and I’ve been part of the McGrady Insurance team since 2022, working as a Personal Lines Customer Service Advisor. I live in Killyleagh with my fiancée, Leah, our four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son.
My career in customer service started in the Belfast office of a major UK bank, where I worked as a Customer Service Advisor. After six months, I moved to an insurance broker in Belfast, where I spent three years before moving to McGrady Insurance.
My favourite part of working at McGrady Insurance has to be the people. A unique blend of personalities here makes the work environment both enjoyable and engaging. It’s great to be part of a team where everyone brings something different to the table.
My time in the industry may be brief compared to some of my colleagues here at McGrady, some of whom have decades of experience working for the firm! Still, I’ve already seen significant changes in the industry. Particularly over the last few years, the market has shifted, and I’ve seen insurers becoming more rigid on coverage and less flexible in negotiating premiums.
Working with brokers like McGrady when sourcing coverage for your home, car, or business makes it all the more important. We have decades-long relationships with our insurers and a level of knowledge and trust built up with our partners that can help us get the right coverage for our clients every time.
I’m excited that McGrady Insurance has become part of the Brown & Brown Insurance family. This change will bring long-term benefits for all of us, offering new opportunities for growth and development for our team and new products and partners to benefit our clients.
Day to day, I’m mostly office-based, typically working four days in the office and one day from home. The flexibility this offers is invaluable, particularly for family life. On my work-from-home day, I can drop my daughter off at school in the morning and be closer to home if needed. I say ‘work from home,’ but I actually usually set up for the day at my mum’s house! There’s a dedicated office space, and it’s a bit quieter there, which helps me plan my day more effectively.
A typical “work-from-mum’s” day includes a gym session or a run during my lunch break, helping me stay active and focused. I wrap up the workday at 5 o’clock and head home to spend the evening with my family.
When it comes to holidays, Florida is my favourite destination. The sunshine, endless activities, and warm weather make it the perfect spot for a family getaway. There’s always something to do, and it’s great to be somewhere that’s both fun and relaxing. It’s great that our new global team is headquartered there - maybe one day I’ll get to combine business and pleasure with a work trip to my favourite US state!
