Bishopscourt Rally 2013, PREVIEW

  • February 2013

Ballynahinch and District Motor Club are set to give spectators plenty of action with double the thrills at the McGrady Insurance Stages Rally, round two of the Carryduff Forklift Northern Ireland Rally Championship, which is due to be held at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit on Saturday 9th March.

BADMC has been working in conjunction with the owners and management of the Circuit, and the club is expecting competitors and spectators to be be thrilled by the new format. Vast changes are set to bring twice the action in 2013, with a total of 14 stages to be held within the venue!

As well as the Group B safety cars, the buzz this year is centred on a complete format modernisation. Drivers will be expected to tackle a loop of two stages before returning to the safety of the service area for a well deserved cup of tea. Spectators will be treated to twice the excitement and will not know where to look as the country’s finest drivers throw their world class machinery around the chicanes and hairpins.

Fintan McGrady hopes to make his debut in the newly built 2.5 litre Mark II.  Watch this space for more details.

The McGrady Insurance Junior 1000 Challenge is also on the bill at Bishopscourt this year.  It gives the budding rally stars of the future a pathway into the sport and should be as competitive as ever.

If you’re looking for a bit of excitement and plenty of action then grab your coats, round up the kids and head for Bishopscourt on Saturday 9 March to get up close and personal with motorsport at its best!

McGrady Insurance Stages Rally, Bishopscourt 2012 REVIEW

  • Mar 20, 2012

The sun came out on St. Patrick's Day at Bishopscourt for the second round of the Carryduff Forklift MSA N.I. Rally Championship 2012 at the McGrady Insurance Stages Rally.  It was Mini madness as Derek McGarrity and James McKee claimed the top prize in their MINI WRC, with Kieron Graffin and Neil Doherty second in their Impreza WRC and Derek McGeehan and Laurie Smyth third in their MINI WRC.

David Graham claimed top spot in Group N in his Evo 9.

In the hotly contested two-wheel-drive category, James and Heather Kennedy picked up the spoils from David Armstrong and Corin Giles, while Fintan McGrady and Mark Hanna clinched third place.

And in the second round of the McGrady Insurance Junior 1000 Rally Challenge Ireland, Ben Crealey and Liam Regan claimed their second victory on the trot with their Micra. Second place went to Kyle White and Alan Purdy, with Rhys Bunting and Andrew Bushe third.  All of the Junior competitors put in a great effort and the future of Irish rallying looks positive with these talented guys on the scene.

Charity Cycle Run!

  • Feb 07, 2012

In July of 2011 Fintan (our MD), along with Laurence Morgan, one of our long standing clients and a friend of Fintan, arranged a charity cycle from Mizen in Cork to Malin in Donegal. The purpose of the cycle was to raise much needed funds for Mainstay DRP, a local charity providing care for people with learning difficulties, Autism and Aspergers. Fintan has been involved with Mainstay DRP for over twenty tears in various capacities.

33 people from all walks of life, from as far away as the USA, England and all over Ireland entered and raised a grand total of £37,500 for Mainstay DRP.

The event lasted five days – Mizen to Killarney, Killarney to Ennistymon, Ennistymon to Westport, Westport to Bundoran and Bundoran to Malin – an average of 100 miles per day.

Professional video footage and interviews of the participants can be seen on the Mainstay DRP Web-site. www.mainstaydrp.org.

This is the latest in a long list of fundraising cycle events that Fintan has been invoved in over the last 10 year. Others included South Victoria, Australia, San Francisco to LA, USA, Cairo to Luxor, Egypt & Belfast to Dublin.

2011 Northern Ireland Rally Championship Honours

  • Dec 17, 2011

Downpatrick Insurance Broker Fintan McGrady has won his class in the 2011 Northern Ireland Rally Championship. The former Irish champion driving his modified 2.0 litre Escort, ably co-driven by Mark Hanna, from Carryduff, had a faultless year on his way to victory although the result only came on the final event.

Snatching some early points at the racing circuits of Kirkistown and Bishopscourt the pair then amassed some good scores on the real challenging tarmac stages of the Circuit of Ireland, Mourne Rally, Sperrins Rally, and Ulster Rally finishing off the season with the forest stages around Tullymore, Castlewellan and Rostrevor.

Fintan says ‘at this stage in my life I rally for pure enjoyment but it is nice to achieve honours’.

For next year it looks like the Border Championship which takes in the lanes of Mayo, Sligo, Monaghan and Cavan. Fintan will also contest the National Circuit of Ireland and the National Ulster Rally where he has finished second and third overall in the last two years.

Thanks goes to McGrady Insurances, Downpatrick, Mascott Construction, Crash Services and Millers Oil for their ongoing support.
